Do I own the website after the project?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You get all access credentials and own the website content and configuration. With WordPress, you receive admin rights in the backend. With Premium, you get the complete code (repository/export) and all necessary deployment info.

Question 2

What does "Premium" mean exactly?

Accepted Answer

Premium means: Your website runs on a server environment operated exclusively for you in Germany (no shared hosting). You have full control over your content, while I take over the technical operation of the infrastructure. There is no lock-in: You can cancel at any time and receive code and data to take with you.

Question 3

What does the server cost monthly – and what happens if I cancel?

Accepted Answer

The monthly server costs are ongoing infrastructure costs (e.g., €29 or €49 per month – depending on package/performance). If you cancel, you receive a clean handover: code/build, deployment guide, and support for moving to another provider if desired. You are not "locked in".

What are the ongoing costs?

Accepted Answer

Always the domain, usually well under €20 per year, and mailboxes if you want them. WordPress adds hosting, depending on provider and requirements. For Premium it is the server costs mentioned above, €29 or €49 per month. Maintenance is optional; ongoing services have a 12-month minimum term and can be cancelled monthly after that. What does not apply are licence fees for the system itself: WordPress and the technologies used are open source. You pay for work and operation, not for renting software.

When does a custom solution make sense?

When you have specific requirements, want maximum performance, prefer a very low-maintenance solution, or need a reduced attack surface. A custom self-hosted solution is ideal if you want to remain independent long term without maintaining a plugin landscape.

Can I change content myself later?

Accepted Answer

Yes. With WordPress, you can maintain texts and images in the backend yourself. With Premium, depending on the solution, there's secure content management or clearly defined change paths (e.g., simple editors or structured content). You receive a brief introduction or documentation so you're not dependent.

Why WordPress and not Wix or Squarespace?

Accepted Answer

Because you want to remain flexible in the long term. Website builders are convenient but often limited in structure, extensibility, and data portability. WordPress is an open standard with a large community and offers you significantly more control over hosting, content, and extensions.

How long does a project take?

Accepted Answer

Depends on scope and collaboration. An 'Olympic' one-pager is often live in 1-2 weeks. A larger WordPress presence or shop typically takes 4-8 weeks (concept, design, implementation, testing).

Question 9

Can my existing website be migrated?

Accepted Answer

In most cases yes. Content, images and structure can be taken over from an existing WordPress or website-builder site, as can the domain and mailboxes. What matters is moving the addresses: existing pages keep their URLs or receive permanent redirects so that rankings and inbound links are not lost. If a migration is not worthwhile, I will tell you beforehand — sometimes a clean rebuild costs less than rescuing old structures.

Who writes the copy and where do the images come from?

The copy usually comes from you, because you know your business best. I structure it, shorten where needed, assign it to the page logic and point out gaps. If you need support with writing, we record that in the offer. As for images: your own photos almost always work better than stock material. Where stock material is used, I make sure the licences are clean — for images from unclear sources, the website operator is liable, not the photographer.

Is my site optimized for Google (SEO)?

You start with a clean technical foundation: structure, loading time, semantic headings, meta data, and indexability. No one can guarantee top rankings – but the technical prerequisites are a major lever and are standard with me.

What about GDPR and legal compliance?

Accepted Answer

I implement privacy-by-design technically: consent banner, tracking only after consent, no unnecessary third parties, clean integration of legal texts. Legal texts themselves are not legal advice – you should have the content reviewed by a legal service provider if needed.

Question 13

Does my website have to be accessible?

Accepted Answer

Possibly yes. The German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) has applied since 28 June 2025. It mainly affects websites through which consumers can enter into contracts — online shops and booking flows. Purely B2B offerings and pure information sites are generally not covered. Micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees and at most €2 million annual turnover are also exempt, but only for services. The technical benchmark is EN 301 549, which builds on WCAG 2.1 level AA. We clarify whether this applies to you before the project starts. Regardless, I build with clean semantics, keyboard operability and sufficient contrast — that is no substitute for legal advice, but it spares you the usual pitfalls.

Is my Premium data stored in the EU / Germany?

Accepted Answer

Yes. With my Premium offer, I guarantee the server location is Germany (Nuremberg) with exclusive resources. Your data does not leave the EU. We regulate this transparently in the contract.

Question 15

What happens with updates, maintenance, and security?

Accepted Answer

With WordPress, updates (core/plugins) are a normal part of operations. With Premium, maintenance effort is usually lower because fewer moving parts are involved. If you want, there's optional maintenance: updates/monitoring/backups – clearly defined. Ongoing services have a minimum term of 12 months (three months' notice); after that they can be cancelled monthly to the end of a calendar month.

Will you leave me alone after launch?

Accepted Answer

No. You receive a clean handover (access, documentation, brief introduction). Afterwards, you can optionally book maintenance or support – or run everything yourself/with your IT partner.

Question 17

How does payment work?

Accepted Answer

Transparent: 40% on commissioning, 60% after acceptance. Invoices are due within 14 days. For larger projects, sensible milestones can be agreed, such as design approval or a completed shop checkout. As a small business under section 19 of the German VAT Act, I do not charge value added tax — the price stated is the final price.

What is Nextcloud and what can I use it for?

Accepted Answer

Nextcloud is a self-hosted platform for files, sharing and collaboration – comparable to an owned, controllable alternative to Dropbox or Google Drive. Whether it fits depends on your workflows, number of users and desired operating effort.

Question 19

What is Matomo and why is it mentioned?

Accepted Answer

Matomo is a web analytics solution that helps you understand how visitors use your website. It can be a privacy-conscious alternative to advertising-funded analytics platforms, but it still needs to be configured appropriately from a technical and legal perspective.

Question 20

Can my team use Vaultwarden?

Accepted Answer

Vaultwarden can serve as a central password store for teams. Before setup, security requirements, permissions, recovery and ongoing updates are clarified. Self-hosting does not remove that responsibility.

Question 21

Do I need to run my own servers for open-source solutions?

Accepted Answer

No. Options include existing infrastructure, a suitable external provider or a managed environment on German or European infrastructure. The right choice depends on effort, data, security requirements and responsibilities.

Question 22

Is open source automatically free?

Accepted Answer

The software may be license-free. Setup, servers, backups, updates, monitoring and ongoing support still take effort and may cost money depending on the solution.
